What’s the curved glass?

Curved Glass is a kind of tempered glass that adds a bending procedure, it also belongs to safety glass.

It is also known as curved safety glass.

Different from normal flat glass, curved glass has a special shape.

Its proceeding is obtained by cutting the normal one into the required size, and then heating it to near 700 ºC, when it is softened, bending it into the required shape or radian, then quickly and evenly cooling.
It has a maximum and minimum arc limit for each thickness, but it can only be a standard arc radius.

Based on the production methods and features, curved glass can be classified into Hot Bending Glass and Heat-treated Tempered Curved Glass.

Curved glass Production：

1. Hot Bending Glass

It is produced with a hot bending machine, the glass will be heated to softening point, form the required shape with mold, and cool down at room temperature, it’s not safety glass.

As there’s no fasting cooling down process, hot bending glass strength is the same as float glass, meanwhile, the glass can be made into any shape based on the different mold.

It’s widely used in interior glass tables, glass shelves, glass cabinets.

2. Tempered Curved Glass

Different from hot bending glass, tempered curved glass heating and cooling process is finished with tempering furnace.
The fast heating and fast cooling process will form compressive stress on the glass surface, It’s safety glass.

Same as flat tempered glass, curved tempered glass also has high strength and will break into small particles once broken and avoid potential injury to people.

With the development of tempering technology, now tempered curved glass can be divided into cylindrical bend tempering, Asymmetrical bend tempering, hyperbolic bending glass, double curved glass, and even multi-curved tempered glass.

Curved tempered glass has below features:

1. Various glass substrates option: Clear, Low iron, tinted glass, acid-etched, low-E coated glass.

2. Silkscreen, digitally printing process can be applied on the glass surface to add an extra design element.

3. Curved glass can further be processed into the laminated curved glass to offer extra acoustic, UV protection, and safety function.

4. Curved glass can further be processed into insulated curved glass panels to offer extra thermal insulation performance.
